Here’s a short example of an Awareness Through Movement® lesson you can do now at your computer:
- Notice your breath: what part of your body moves as you inhale and exhale?
- Notice how your body rests on your chair and where your feet are: are you as comfortable as you would like to be? Without changing anything, compare how you feel on the right side and the left side of your body.
- Put both feet on the floor, and slowly start to shift your weight from side to side – VERY SLOWLY. Do this a number of times. Notice if you go more forward on one side than the other, or if it is easier to shift to one side than the other. Notice what you do with your ribs, with your pelvis, with your head, with your feet, and with your eyes as you do this movement. Does your ear get closer to your shoulder? Find out if you are tensing your jaw, or holding your breath.
- Bring your weight back into the middle and notice if you feel any differences. Very often people feel taller or more supported just after a few movements like this.
