- Information about the causes of persistent pain; what is happening in the brain
and nervous system, as well as in the tissues of your body (muscles, skin, etc.) - Discussion about how emotions, thoughts, and trauma may be related to your experience of pain
- Different models of thinking about and treating persistent pain
- Strengthen your ability to make decisions about your own treatment and how you might talk to your providers about your preferences
- Gentle movement and imagery lessons that calm your nervous system and increase your ability to move and exercise with less pain
- An opportunity to talk with other people who experience persistent pain
- Much of the class curriculum is based on the book Explain Pain by David Butler and Lorimer Moseley.
Here’s what clients had to say two months after completing the class:
“Before, I didn’t understand anything about my body. I didn’t know how to listen to it. Every time that I feel my body is in danger, I do the exercises. I learned a lot about how to take care of myself.”
“Doing the exercises from class is what has kept me on my feet. In this class one see the information and then also does the exercises. The theory and the [use of] video help me put the ideas into practice … one can understand better.”
“I have been more aware of my posture since taking your class. It reduced pain in my back in sitting and standing.”
