Awareness
Through Movement® for Running Do you worry that injuries or pain will keep you from running? Do you try to make changes to your form but your habitual way of moving keeps creeping in? This series breaks down the basic action of running into slow movement explorations so you can sense what you are doing and analyze your own movement.
If
your whole body is working
together and your skeleton is aligned, your joints can take a lot of
impact. If not, your muscles, tendons and ligaments have to catch your
weight with each step,
and that is how many sports injuries occur. But it's not strong muscles
that keep your bones in place. The important thing is what your nervous
system is telling your muscles to do, based on what it senses and what
"feels right." But how do you get your body to feel what's right?
Train your nervous system.
Theselessons break down the basic action of running into slow
explorations so you can feel what you are doing, rather than relying on someone else to tell you how to run. You go at your own pace and learn to feel what you are really doing. Run from your core, align the joints of your
legs, and coordinate your whole self for more fluid, powerful running. Because it is so self-directed, this class is appropriate for anyone from casual joggers to serious
runners.
Lesson one: Pelvis and spine. Lesson two: Upper torso and head. Lesson three: Feet and legs. Lesson four: Pushing back for power.
This class is not currently being offered, but you can bring it to your group in the Portland Metro Area. please email me for more info or call 503 - 380 - 5437
"My running is much more fluid since taking Johanna's Awareness Through Movement class. She is a wonderful instructor - knowledgeable, attentive, and energetic. I highly recommend taking her class." --Running Class Participant
"The
Feldenkrais work has had an enormous effect on the way I run. My knee
problem vanished. I've increased my mileage considerably without a
trace of difficulty and I'm running faster." -- Bruce Holmes, quoted in Runners' World
About the Instructor: I
used to hate running. I would say, "the only time I run is if I'm late
for the bus." But a year into my Feldenkrais Teacher Training, I
suddenly just felt like running. I realized that once I could organize
my body for running, it didn't feel so unpleasant. In fact, running
gets me outside in the winter, helps me exercise my dog and myself, and
helps me feel peaceful and happy. And it's nice to know that if I need
to, I can run.
Bring this series to your group! Arrange a private workshop for your running partners or organization. If you don't have a big space for a class, I can provide the space. 503 - 380- 5437 or email me
