Living Well with Persistent Pain – a support group

I will be offering a support group for people experiencing persistent/chronic pain starting January 28th. There will be a group in English and a group in Spanish (see below for scheduling details).

* Information about chronic/persistent pain, primarily based on concepts from the Feldenkrais Method and the NOI group in Australia
* Self-care, accommodation and pacing (including self-awareness and skeletal support/organization)
* Relationships and social support, working with medical providers
* The interplay of pain with thoughts and feelings, especially with trauma experiences

Each session will include some combination of education, group discussion, and a Feldenkrais(R) Awareness Through Movement(R) lesson or a somatic resourcing or mindfulness exercise.

Wednesdays, January 28 to April 15, 2015 – 12 sessions
People need to pre-register, no drop-ins (see below)
Spanish group 10:00am to 11:30am
English group 12:00pm to 1:30pm

Western Conexiones/Western Psychological & Counseling Services
3500 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite 200
Portland, OR 97212
We’re on the corner with NE Fremont, and the entrance to the second floor is on Fremont. There is an elevator and stairs to the second floor.

Contact Meghan at the Western Conexiones front desk: 503-327-8205.
She can answer questions about insurance and the sign-up process, and schedule an initial intake appointment with me. She will transfer people to my extension if they have specific questions about group content.

Many insurances will pay for this group, including Oregon Health Plan. To use insurance at my office, you will need to confirm if we can accept your insurance with our front desk. You will also need to become a client of Western Psychological, which means having one initial assessment appointment with me before starting the group (after that, no more individual sessions are required).  The cash pay amount is $25 per group. I may be able to offer a couple of sliding scale options.
